The Antigua Yacht Club, organizers of the 2016 North American Optimist Dinghy Championships are pleased to announce the return of YAO as a sponsor for the youth sailing championship event, taking place in Antigua from July 10 – July 18, 2016 in English Harbour.
The Optimist is the biggest youth racing class in the World and the Championships are restricted to sailors aged between 8 and 15 years of age.
There are 150 young sailors from twenty-one countries registered for Optinam 2016.
As part of its sponsorship, all sailors during the week will be treated to a selection of popular YAO products to include yoghurts and ice-creams.
The mission at YAO is to provide healthy, natural and locally made products to the Antiguan community. The company’s core motto is "Buy Antiguan, Build Antigua".
"We support the local market and events to aid our vision, and as such, Yao is pleased to support The Seaboard Marine 2016 North American Championships. This sporting event will be held in Antigua for the second consecutive year and not only provides international publicity for the island but also gives our youth an opportunity to showcase their sailing passions," said YAO spokesperson Lilly Bavay.
Commenting on the announcement, the Antigua Yacht Club’s Optinam 2016 Committee Chairperson, Paloa Vittoria said: "YAO is one of our key partners on Optinam 2016. They have been onboard with us since 2015, when we first hosted the Championships, and they were quite instrumental in the success of that event. We are so thrilled to have their unwavering and generous support again in 2016."
Optinam 2016 is set to open with a grand opening ceremony and parade on July 10th at 6p.m. The sailors will move off from Falmouth Harbour and make their way to Nelson’s Dockyard for the ceremony, complete with cultural performances and fireworks.
